What do Sonny Bill Williams, Portia Woodman and Rieko Ioane all have in common? They all did athletics while they were at school. The skills you learn in athletics are the perfect foundation for almost any sport.
Our local athletics club, Owairaka Athletics, is welcoming new members now. They have everything you need to give athletics a go. To find out more go to www.owairakaathletics.co.nz.

"... We would love to provide a full schedule of 18 events across Aotearoa this season, our 30th series, but the emergence of COVID in our community has impacted our planning and significantly increased the chance of future disruption leading us to re-evaluate the format of our 2021-22 series.
This season we will be delivering a reduced event series of 10 TRYathlons (versus planned 18 events) with the first event being held in February 2022. We are very sad to say that we have been unable to include the Central West Auckland TRYathlon event into the 2022 event schedule.
However, we will be offering a new innovative programme this season, called TRY CHALLENGE, where tamariki will have the opportunity to earn their Champions Medal, and TRYathlon T-shirt by encouraging them to work towards a fitness goal. This programme, including medal and T-shirt, will be available for a small fee of around $10.
This three-week programme, which has been designed in collaboration with Triathlon NZ, can be completed through school or at home.
We are very excited to be bringing this new TRY CHALLENGE initiative to you in our 30th year of the Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon. An invitation to join the TRY CHALLENGE programme along with further details will be sent to you and your school by the 1st November. "
Watch this space as I will be promoting the Try Challenge as soon as the information arrives. Hopefully we will be in Level 1 by then.
Unfortunately this event will not be happening due to being in red level this term.
Here is the last of the Sport Auckland Choice Boards for you to try this term. Enjoy!
Scroll down for more activities and the Whanau Amazing Race. I would love some feedback about any of these activities so please comment below if you have tried any of them. Thanks in advance!
Have fun with these activities. You can stick to one level, mix it up and try different levels or challenge yourself and do one from each level.

Heads Up - Weetbix Tryathlon is coming in December. Will you be part of the Owairaka Team this year? Each year we send teams to the Eden Albert Rugby Tournament run by Auckland Rugby Union. This year we found it difficult to enter teams in the Under 40kg and Under 46kg grades due to lack of interest but thankfully the Under 46kg boys we did have were able to play in the Open Weight grade. They played so well and their speed and stamina really showed.
Most of the girls had never played rippa before and we were very impressed at the progress they have made over the past few weeks of training. They showed teamwork, determination and resilience throughout all their games.
Congratulations to our Open Rugby Team, who came 3rd in their section, and to our Girls Rippa Rugby Team, who came fourth in the final of their competition. The coaches, teachers and parents were very proud of our players.
Many thanks to Eti and Tenille, Dayelle's parents, for coaching the girls and to Michael Taia, from Eden Rugby, for coaching the boys. If you are looking for a rugby club for your child next season please consider Eden Rugby Club.
Congratulations to the children who took part in the annual Tough Guy/Gal MUD Run for 2021. These dedicated children took part in our weekly running club during terms 1 and 2, and had a lot of fun splashing in the mud this week. Run club will be back in 2022 for Kauri team students.
