Hi Owai Families!

Here are more ideas from Sport Auckland for you to try with your family. Have fun and stay active.

CHALLENGE YOURSELF
GET CREATIVE
GET PHYSICAL
Do the limbo!

Challenge your family to a limbo competition.

Question:
Who got the lowest in your whanau?

What do you need to do to get lower?
Walk like an animal:

Pretend to be your favourite animal and walk around the house/neighbourhood.

Question:
Can you do the entire alphabet?

What was the easiest animal to be?
Play Pokemon Go:

Hunt pokemon with the augmented reality game  within your community. Download the app here and you’re away. It’s a great way for the family to get your and explore your neighbourhood.

Tip: Make sure you take your hand sanitiser to keep your hands clean!
Steady Heads:

Create an easy obstacle course within your home, now try and balance different things on your head and complete the course.

E.G, a cushion, a shoe, a piece of paper, a pot, a bottle of water?

Create a Hallway Laser field:

Use toilet paper and cellotape to create a maze for yourself and family to crawl through.

Click here for an example.

Question:
How fast can you go through your course?

Can you do the course with one eye or both eyes closed?
Dice roll fun fitness:

Using a dice (or other way of having 1-6 random numbers) try and get to a total of 20 points as fast as you can.
1= 15 star jumps
2= 5 burpees
3= 10 sit ups
4= Run to the letterbox and back
5= 15 squats
6= Spin around 10 times on the spot
Tip: Challenge someone in your house or a friend online!

Tip: adjust the level for the age of kids eg: less / more than 20 points, more/less reps.

Question: What activity could you add to make it even more fun?

Find 10 objects (not breakable) as pins. Set them up in a triangle.
Use a soft toy as a bowling ball and play! Challenge members of your household.

Complete a Les Mills Born to Move workout.

These sessions are also on TV2 + 1 at 4pm each week day.

Question: Are workouts better with music or without music? Why?

Do 10 minutes of the following:
Meditating
Yoga

Question: How did these activities make you feel?

The floor is Lava!
Create a course inside and outside your house using everyday objects. You can’t stand on the ground.
Challenge others in your house to a time trial. Be safe!

Question: What physical skills did you need to use to get around the course?

Home Olympics #1
With members of your house (or against yourself) set up a series of Olympic events to compete in.
  • egg and spoon or hopping race
  • ‘keep it up’ with a toilet roll of rolled up sock. most wins
  • sock shot: with a rolled up sock choose target to throw at. farthest away wins.

Question:  Is there a difference when you are competing against a family member and when you are just challenging yourself? If so, what? and which do you prefer?

Eden Albert Cricket Tournament Team

We are very proud of our two cricket teams who represented Owairaka at the Eden/Albert tournament at Cornwall Cricket Club. All the students involved set themselves goals, overcame challenges and grew enormously in confidence during trainings, and especially on the day. We are particularly proud of the teamwork and sportsmanship that the teams showed.

Sincere thanks to grandparent, Charles Nicholls, for helping with coaching and umpiring the team. Also, many thanks to the other parents who helped with transport and supporting the teams on the day.

Thanks again to Andy Faulder for organising and coaching the boys!

Have you noticed our new sports uniforms?
